USA and West Indies Ready To Host Historic ICC T20 World Cup in 2024

The ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has been announced, with the West Indies and USA set to host the event in 2024.

• Co-hosts the West Indies to play group matches in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Saint Lucia.

• Defending champions England and Australia are drawn together in the group stage.

The match schedule for the ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has been announced, with the event taking place in the West Indies and the United States from 1 to 29 June 2024.

The ICC Men’s flagship T20 event will feature a record 20 teams divided into four groups competing in 55 matches for the right to be crowned champions of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, including co-hosts West Indies and of the United States, along with other qualifiers: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, England, India, Ireland, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Uganda.

Vibrant action unfolds in the T20 World Cup 2024, as teams battle for cricket glory on the international stage.

The 20 teams were divided into four groups of five, with the top two teams advancing to the Super Eight:

Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and the United States

Group B: England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman

Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea

Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal

The event begins with the two co-hosts kicking off their campaigns in the first two days of June. The United States will face Canada in the tournament opener at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas on Saturday, June 1, while the West Indies begin their campaign against Papua New Guinea at the Guyana National Stadium on Sunday, June 2.

One of cricket’s greatest rivalries takes place in one of the world’s most iconic cities, with New York hosting India and Pakistan on Sunday 9 June. The game will be played in an innovative 34,000-seat modular stadium just 30 miles east of downtown Manhattan in Nassau County, New York. Eight matches were played on site.

Reigning champions England begin their title defense on Tuesday 4 June in Barbados against Scotland, while 2022 finalists Pakistan begin their challenge on Thursday 6 June when they face the United States in Dallas.

Among the many blockbuster matches scheduled in the group stage, fans can expect Sri Lanka to take on South Africa in New York on Monday 3 June, while England take on arch-rivals Australia in Barbados on Saturday 8 June . Another highly anticipated match is West Indies taking on New Zealand on Wednesday 12 June at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago.

First-time qualifiers Uganda will play their maiden ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Guyana against Afghanistan on Monday 3 June. Nepal, who have qualified for the T20 World Cup for the first time since 2014, will open their campaign against Sri Lanka in one of the four matches to be played at the Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.

Once the group stage has finished, the top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super Eights stage of the competition. Teams seeded first and second in their groups in the first round will retain those seeds in the Super Eights, provided they qualify. The Super Eights matches will be played in the popular Caribbean tourist destinations of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The top two teams from each group of the Super Eights will advance to the semi-finals, which will be held in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 June respectively. The final will take place at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday 29 June.

“The release of the tournaments will be even more exciting for fans as we enter a new frontier with the United States hosting a major ICC event for the first time.” With 16 games played across three American locations, this gives us the opportunity to make a statement on the largest sports market in the world.

“It will also be fantastic to host an ICC event in the West Indies, who have such a rich history of the game. They have hosted very successful World Cups in the past and this tournament will really give a boost to the game there, especially with the final taking place will play in Barbados.”
